Mike Marriner of Retail Navigator tells me that his firm develops retail
applications for retail store chains. In the past they have used Novell
or NT servers. In the future, they would prefer to use Linux running
SAMBA as the server for their retail stores.
Mike hopes that VanLUG can refer several candidates that have commercial
experience and could connect various clients including MACs, DOS and
win95 using TCP/IP. He adds, "Our application also has the ability to
run as a Linux application and we would also need skills utilizing
Telnet on MACs or Wyse Terminals."
He has asked me to forward his request to any or all members of VanLUG
who may be interested. He suggests, "This project will provide much
press in the retail world. Linux has a huge future in retail stores. For
example, Burlington Coat Factory has ordered over 1,000 Linux systems
for its 250 stores. Linux provides a fast and stable environment for
retailers to run stores and provide product information to customers
over the internet. Linux webserver skills would also be helpful."
Retail Navigator will be installing their system at the Opus Framing and
Art Supplies stores. The first installation will be on Granville
Island.

he will be in Vancouver starting April 21st (next Wednesday).
