Hi, all.

We're looking into the *possibility* of contributing a Linux display to
Science World.

The purpose of the display would be to expose the public to the concept
of Open Source computing and the contributions of the UNIX family of
operating systems to scientific computing.

Our objective will be to help people put UNIX and Open Source in
context, NOT to teach people how to configure, administer, or use a
Linux system. We will, however, supply pointers to suitable materials,
perhaps via a companion web site.

Before we make any offer or commitment, we want to be sure that we have
adequate interest and support within the group. If you're interested in
helping, please let me know. If things look good, we'll set up a
special mailing list for the project.

Major tasks:

1. Definition of display scope and objectives.

2. Preparation of text and graphics for display.

3. Solicitation of corporate sponsorships to fund
preparation of display boards. (Demo hardware,
    too?)

4. Preparation of display boards based on Item 2.

5. Preparation of a companion web site based on
    Item 2.

6. Preparation of demo software?

7. Setup and delivery to Science World.
